As he fought back tears, Tyler Chiarello denounced the sentence of probation given to the woman charged in a 2022 crash that killed his father.

“America’s justice system is allowing someone to get off after killing,” Chiarello told those gathered in a Cumberland County courtroom last month for the sentencing.

Janessa N. Almodovar , 29, of Upper Deerfield, was accused of being intoxicated when she pulled a pickup truck out of a driveway and collided with Robert Chiarello, 58, of Upper Deerfield, as he rode a motorcycle on West Landis Avenue in Vineland on the evening of June 8, 2022.

Chiarello died of his injuries.

Under the terms of a plea agreement, a judge sentenced Almodovar to three years of probation and no jail time.
