EUFAULA, Ala. (WTVM) - Historic properties line the streets of Eufaula, dating back to when the city became a key location for shipping and trade.
Just a mile west of downtown sits Fendall Hall.
“The house was built in 1860 by Edward and Ann Young. Five generations of their family lived here until the house was sold to the state in 1973,” Christy Buchan, the site director at Fendall Hall, explained.
Marble fireplaces and flooring are noticeable upon entering the Italianate-style home, now a house museum.
“This tile is not grouted in,” Buchan said. “It rests on sand, so you can kind of hear it or feel it a little bit. People get a kick out of that.”
The wall and ceiling murals were hand-painted in 1884. Gas chandeliers were also added in the 1880s during renovations before getting wire
