ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Six people are hoping to become Georgia’s newest state senator Tuesday, as voters in Cobb and Fulton counties’ District 35 are going to the polls after their former senator resigned to run for governor.
Democrat Jason Esteves was elected to the seat in November 2022, and he was elected to a second term in 2024. But earlier this year, Esteves became the first Democrat to announce a bid for governor in Georgia’s nationally watched 2026 midterms.
Here are the candidates in the Nov. 18, 2025, special election:
Roger Bruce, former state representative; Democrat
Jaha Howard, a former Cobb County school board; Democrat
Erica-Denise Solomon, a Fulton County consultant and former journalist; Democrat
John Daryl Williams; a mechanical engineer and community
