HAMMOND, La. (WVUE) - Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Gerald Sticker says his now-viral post telling voters to “sleep tight” after rejecting a funding measure for his agency was meant to educate, not criticize residents.
Parish voters on Saturday (Nov. 15) rejected a Sticker-backed proposal to swap a parish’s property tax with a new sales tax, a move supporters estimated would have generated $16 million for the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.
The TPSO promoted the measure, releasing videos saying the money would pay for needed manpower and equipment. But voters rejected the measure by a 55-45 percent margin.
