WACO, Texas — The event, part of the organization’s GAPS program — Gang Awareness, Prevention and Safety — will take place Nov. 18 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the South Terrace Community Center in Waco . Dinner will be served from 5:30 to 6 p.m. , and childcare will be available.
Organizers say the initiative, now in its third year, began as gang activity rose in Waco and surrounding counties.
“We saw a need in our community to bring awareness to the gang activity that was happening,” said David Baker of the Heart of Texas Behavioral Health Network . “We really hope to show young people that there are positive alternatives to gang involvement.”
The program serves six counties: McLennan, Falls, Limestone, Freestone, Bosque and Hill .
