A £22m financial gap could leave Senedd staff, politicians and contractors by January 2027 unable to be paid, the Welsh Parliament’s speaker has revealed. Elin Jones, the presiding officer or Llywydd, warned of dire knock-on effects for the Senedd if no budget can be agreed by politicians.
Labour has the most seats in the Senedd but does not have a majority, which makes passing a budget considerably harder. Negotiations are ongoing between political groups to come to an agreement before the vote in January.
