Face Rock Creamery LLC of Bandon, Oregon, has recalled potentially fatally contaminated 6-oz. units of Vampire Slayer Garlic Cheddar, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA), which released the company announcement.
The Organism Can Have Fatal Side-Effects
The product could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes , an organism that can cause serious and fatal infections in children, frail and elderly people, and those suffering weakened immune systems.
Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths, and healthy individuals can suffer short-term symptoms of high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.
The Vampire Slayer Garlic Cheddar units have a sell-by date of 11/04/26.
The recall follows an FDA environmental sample
