Scottish writer and artist Andrew Redmond Barr, best-known for his hand-drawn Atlas of Scotland, has designed an illustrated Christmas card and poster print depicting the 1950 scene of a group of Scottish students taking the stone – also known as the Stone of Scone – from London’s Westminster Abbey and into a car.
The stone is understood to have been damaged and repaired following the raid, with recent research led by Stirling University revealing the existence and fate of many fragments of the Stone of Destiny – including one gifted to the police inspector involved in the search after its famous return in 1950.
Barr, 33, shared that he saw the anniversary as an "interesting opportunity to mark an event in our history which has captured people’s imaginations across generations".
