Cloudflare, a key internet infrastructure provider, reported a network issue on Tuesday that disrupted access to several popular websites, including the social media platform X and the AI chatbot ChatGPT. The company acknowledged the problem around 7 a.m. ET, stating it was investigating an issue that could impact multiple customers. Shortly after, Cloudflare announced it was working on a resolution.

"We are seeing services recover, but customers may continue to observe higher-than-normal error rates as we continue remediation efforts," Cloudflare stated.

Users encountered various error messages, including a 500 error on X, which prompted a notice about an "internal server error" and advised users to check back later. ChatGPT's website also displayed a warning, asking users to "please unblock to proceed."

In addition to X and ChatGPT, other services affected included Shopify, Dropbox, Coinbase, and the online game League of Legends. Moody's website showed a similar 500 error, directing users to Cloudflare for further information.

As part of its remediation efforts, Cloudflare temporarily disabled certain services for users in the United Kingdom. The company reported that it had made changes that allowed its Cloudflare Access and WARP services to recover, returning error levels for those users to pre-incident rates.

Cloudflare, based in San Francisco, provides essential infrastructure that helps protect websites from online threats and manage user traffic. This incident follows a series of outages in the tech industry, including a recent issue with Microsoft's Azure cloud portal and a significant outage of Amazon's cloud services last month, which affected a wide range of online platforms.
