Fans of The Vampire Diaries will be seeing star Nina Dobrev making her TV return soon, with the announcement of a new series. Dobrev stars in seasons 1 through 6 of The Vampire Diaries , primarily as Elena Gilbert, but also as her evil doppelgänger Katherine Pierce. Both, at different times, are in the middle of a love triangle between the Salvatore brothers.

Dobrev departed The Vampire Diaries after season 6 , forcing it to shake things up for the final two seasons and focus the story more on Damon and Stefan's (Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley) relationship. Since then, Dobrev has mostly starred in movies and music videos, including Flatliners, Dog Days, Then Came You, Love Hard , and Redeeming Love .
