The team as MS NOW’s “Morning Joe” ripped into Fox News Tuesday for ignoring the press conference featuring never-before-heard survivors of Jeffrey Epstein just ahead of a landmark vote on releasing files on the disgraced financier — and instead covering news on an “illegal alien truck driver.”
“A divided system, people living in information bubbles, evident right now: Washington leaders of both parties have their eyes fixed on this, this is obviously driving the news right now, and yet John [Lemire], you've pointed out to me that Fox News is not carrying this press conference,” Joe Scarborough said.
“I just checked to see what they were talking about and it's 'ICE caught an illegal alien truck driver.'”
Held at the steps of the Capitol in Washington, D.C., the press conference was scheduled just hours ahead of a landmark vote in the House that could force the Justice Department to release all of its files on Epstein.
The presser was spearheaded by Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Ro Khanna (D-CA). Khanna announced the presser last week during an appearance on “Breaking Points,” where he revealed that Epstein survivors “who have not spoken out before” would be featured at the press event.
But for Fox News, a single arrest made by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents was apparently more pressing news than a potential release of tens of thousands of documents that many suspect could implicate some of the world’s most powerful figures.
“MS NOW, of course carrying that, our colleagues at CNN are carrying this live; Fox News is not,” said Lemire. “We know that is the channel favored in the White House, favored by President Donald Trump, and reinforces Joe, to your point, that these are bubbles here, and Republicans and the president do not want to grapple with this story.”
The House is set to convene Tuesday at 12 p.m. EST where it’s expected to vote on the bill that would force the DOJ to release all of its files on Epstein. It’s expected to pass the House with an overwhelming majority, and will then move on to the Senate, and finally, Trump’s desk for final approval.
“What's astounding is the fact that you actually have a MAGA base who is very much interested in this story, and a driving force behind it!” Scarborough said.
“I guarantee you almost every Republican and Democrat on the Hill right now are watching this; it's driving the news today, and one network is choosing not to cover this press conference and instead [are] talking about a truck driver.”
