CLEVELAND, Ohio -- When Playhouse Square and Cleveland Clinic launched their Arts & Minds initiative over the summer, the idea was to find ways the performing arts could improve the lives of people with neurological conditions. The initial offering, Dance for Parkinson’s, has already drawn about 140 participants to its weekly classes. Now the program is receiving international recognition.
Playhouse Square has been named a Dance for PD licensed affiliate, becoming the first in Ohio and one of just 23 organizations worldwide to earn the distinction. Dance for PD is widely regarded as the gold standard for dance programs tailored to people living with Parkinson’s disease.
The designation follows a yearlong certification process completed by Joan Meggitt, Playhouse Square’s senior manager
