India’s consumer inflation fell to 0.25 per cent year-on-year in October 2025, the lowest level recorded since January 2014. The sharp decline was primarily driven by food and beverages, which saw deflation of 3.72 per cent. Although businessline analysis observed moderate price increases in most sub-categories of core inflation, the large weight of food at 45.86 per cent of the consumer price index (CPI) pulled the overall index down.
State-level data show wide variation, ranging from 8.6 per cent inflation in Kerala to 2 per cent deflation in Bihar.
