Galveston hosted a 250th Marine Corps Ball at Moody Gardens Saturday. It was one of many held around the nation and around the world.

Holding a ball to celebrate the birthday of the United States Marines is a yearly tradition that includes a formal birthday cake cutting. The slices of cake are shared first by the oldest Marine present, who then passes the slice to the youngest Marine.

The youngest Marine at Galveston’s ball was born on November 14, 2006 and comes from League City. As he gobbled down his slice of cake, other younger Marines cheered him on.
