Town hall bosses in Wigan are to improve the repair and maintenance of the borough’s 21,000 council homes to comply with legislation introduced as part of Awaab’s Law.

Councillors on the Labour-controlled Wigan cabinet have agreed to tighten up compliance on the town’s 120 council house estates.

A report was presented to the meeting stating the improvements were designed to comply with standards set by the Regulator of Social Housing – a public body sponsored by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
