Another person died from a house fire in the 900 block of Whitefield Avenue on Monday night.

Chatham County Fire Department (CCFD) crews were dispatched for a structure fire at 10:25 p.m. where visible smoke and flames were coming from a residence.

A person was located inside the home during a search, and they were treated on scene by emergency medical services before being transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center.

A CCFD Facebook post Tuesday morning said the victim succumbed to injuries sustained in the event.

Fire crews remained on the scene and conducted overhaul operations to ensure the fire was fully extinguished. While the cause of the fire is currently unknown, the State Fire Marshall's Office is investigating the case.
