DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — November is National Adoption Month.
A central Illinois family has shared their story in hopes of encouraging others to consider fostering or adoption, especially as the need for stable, loving homes continues to grow.
Debra Rainey and Sue Fustin recently finalized the adoption of Deborah's two young grandchildren. The pair told WAND News their journey began with an unexpected phone call.
“We received a call from DCFS to come and pick the children up at their home, and that's how they came to us,” Debra said.
The adoption was finalized in October 2024 through Lutheran Child and Family Services. It was a moment that Debra and Sue said they never imagined would one day be theirs.
