The flags were lowered to half-staff at the legislative building on Tuesday at the news of the death of former MLA and cabinet minister Herb Cox.
Cox was first elected as the Sask. Party MLA for Battlefords in 2011 and was re-elected in 2016. He chose not to run again in 2020.

Cox’s tenure was punctuated by health struggles. In 2012, he was diagnosed with bone cancer. In 2016, he was Environment Minister but left Cabinet to undergo stem cell treatment to battle cancer again.
“I have gone through this treatment once before a few years back and I know it would make it extremely difficult to continue to perform my duties as a cabinet minister,” Cox said in a news release at the time.
