Iwas brought up knowing that if you walk at night, you wear white or light-colored clothing and carry a lit flashlight. Or better yet: Wear a fluorescent jacket that glows when a vehicle’s lights shine on it.

Most people I see walking at night wear dark clothing, and when driving, I usually don’t see them until I am almost upon them. Many walk on the side of the street with their back to approaching traffic. If they walking facing traffic, they can see if a car is getting too close to them and can take evasive action. It’s a smart way to walk.
