The Fresno Police Department has been awarded a $635,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety aimed at efforts to reduce serious injuries and deaths on local roads.
The grant, which was announced Tuesday, will support enforcement and education efforts through September 2026.
Under the grant, the department plans to conduct DUI checkpoints and patrols, high-visibility distracted driving operations, and enforcement targeting dangerous driver behaviors such as speeding, failure to yield, running stop signs or red lights, and improper lane changes.
Programs will also focus on bicycle and pedestrian safety, motorcycle enforcement, street racing, and sideshows.
