The Mets are planning to designate right-handed pitcher Frankie Montas for assignment, a source told MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. Montas was going into the final year of a two-year, $34 million deal he signed last December. The club has not confirmed the move.

The transaction would clear a 40-man roster spot ahead of Tuesday's deadline to finalize rosters before this year's Rule 5 Draft.

Montas was expected to miss the entire 2026 season after undergoing elbow surgery. He made only seven starts as a Met, recording a 6.28 ERA.
