A man is dead after his vehicle crashed following a police pursuit Monday night in St. Cloud.

The St. Cloud Police Department says one of its officers was on routine patrol at about 10:40 p.m. when he saw a car traveling at a high rate of speed on University Drive. The officer’s radar reportedly clocked the vehicle going 62 mph in a 30 mph zone.

The officer tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver accelerated. Police said the officer pursued the car as it crossed the University Bridge.

Police said the officer ended the pursuit, but the vehicle continued speeding through a roundabout, then collided with a parked truck and light pole.

Emergency responders tried to resuscitate the driver, a 41-year-old St. Cloud man, but he died at the scene. The Minnesota State Patrol identified him as
