The "major business announcement" teased by Minnesota Sports & Entertainment — the Craig Leipold-owned parent company for the Minnesota Wild — was the reveal that Minnesota is getting a Major League Volleyball (MLV) team in 2027.
Didn't that happen already? Not quite. The announcement last week that Minnesota is getting a League One Volleyball (LOVB) team in 2027 is different, as the team Leipold has purchased is part of MLV, one of two other leagues.
"When we were doing our diligence, we assumed that there would be one in this market," Leipold said. "I have to question whether it's appropriate to put two teams in one market like this. There is two in Atlanta and there [are] two in Nebraska (Omaha)."
Leipold's company also owns the Iowa Wild and the 317 on Rice Park event center.
