WASHINGTON — For U.S. Rep. Summer Lee, the months of delays, haggling and flip-flopping leading up to Tuesday’s vote to compel the release of investigative files into Jeffrey Epstein were completely unnecessary.
The legal remedy she helped create to force President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice to take the same action, she said, has been on the books the whole time.
“The DOJ has been on the hook to release the full, un-redacted Epstein files since August, and they’ve been slow-walking it and stalling,” Ms. Lee, D-Swissvale, said Tuesday in a social media video about the subpoena she helped secure over the summer.
Ms. Lee moved to subpoena the Justice Department through her role on the House Oversight Committee, though Democrats have said the tens of thousands of pages of records
