A late-night fight outside a Virginia apartment ended with a man allegedly waiting for his target to walk back — then opening fire into a group of four, according to police.
Sean Favors, 31, is facing attempted murder and other charges after allegedly lying in wait for his victims and firing shots into a group, the Fredericksburg Police Department announced on Tuesday.
Police say that officers were called around 1:20 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 16, for reports of shots fired in the 1100 block of Fleetwood Court.
When officers arrived, Favors and the reporting party’s brother “had been involved in a physical altercation outside the residence,” police said.
According to investigators, Favors then ran back into his apartment and waited.
Police said he “waited for the brother to return” and “shot his firearm into a group of four people intentionally as they were walking back into the apartment complex.”
The caller told officers they then saw two people, including the suspect, get into a vehicle parked in front of the leasing office and take off toward Lafayette Boulevard, according to the department.
A patrol officer spotted the vehicle and pulled it over, at which point two fled on foot.
That is when officers and a police K9 unit went to work.
According to the department, Officer DeCilles and K9 Roxy “initiated a track and located one of the occupants, a juvenile, hiding in a dumpster.” Police confirmed the juvenile “to have fled from the vehicle.”
Investigators say the minor is related to Favors and “was placed in protective custody following the incident.”
A search of the vehicle turned up a firearm, police said. Favors was later arrested without incident at his apartment complex the same day.
Favors is now charged with:
- Attempted second-degree murder;
- Maliciously discharging a firearm in/at an occupied building;
- Removal or alteration of a weapon;
- Gross, wanton, or reckless care for a child.
He's being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area to contact Det. Dobson, according to the department.
