A man who was convicted Monday of strangling his girlfriend's 6-year-old son to death in 2016 was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole Tuesday.

Darin Thrailkill, 40, was convicted by a jury of first degree murder of a child by a person in a position of trust following a multiple-week trial. That charge comes with a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The child, Martin Osinski, was unresponsive when brought to the emergency room at St. Mary’s Hospital in July 2016 by his mother, Krystal.

According to the arrest affidavit, law enforcement was notified after hospital employees noticed suspicious marks on Martin’s body.
