JAMES CITY — A bicyclist is in critical condition after being struck by a sports utility vehicle in James City County Tuesday morning.
A 62-year-old man was riding an electric bike at about 6 a.m. on Ironbound Road when he entered the intersection of Monticello Avenue and Casey Boulevard against a red light, according to James City County police. He was hit by a 2008 GMC Envoy driven by a 72-year-old York County man, who had a green light. The GMC driver stopped and called 911.
The victim received emergency medical attention at the scene and was later airlifted to VCU Medical Center in Richmond. He remains in critical condition, police said Tuesday afternoon.
No charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.
