MONROE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - Monroe County Sheriff Tommy Jones said new advanced technology is helping make the Monroe County Detention Facility safer for inmates.
In August 2021, Jones said MCSO received a $178,000 grant from the state to enhance health and safety in the facility. This went towards a a UV light disinfectant system and a full-body scanner.
While the equipment’s original goal was to protect inmates and staff from getting COVID-19, both pieces of equipment have delivered benefits beyond its original purpose, Jones said, emphasizing the scanner.
Jones said the body scanner performs a complete head-to-toe inspection in under seven seconds and can detect any concealed objects, including weapons, explosives, narcotics, electronic devices, precious stones, metals and cell pho
