CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Over 30,000 Charlotte-Mecklenburg School students were absent on Monday an increase of nearly 9,500 that was first reported, according to school officials.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said on Tuesday, Nov. 18, that the attendance data shared on Monday of 20,935 students absent was unofficial, and the numbers were updated following overnight attendance data conversion, and it showed that 30,399 students were absent.
Officials said that the number is still unofficial and the data still needs to be finalized by the state.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools did not say if the absences were connected to the ongoing immigration operation in the city.
