CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Border Patrol’s ongoing presence in Charlotte is leading many families to keep their children home from school and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools staff say the impact is immediate.
A CMS multilingual teacher, David Gillespie, told WCNC Charlotte he’s deeply concerned after seeing more than 30,000 students absent on Monday.
“I’m not sure which of my students I’m going to see again,” Gillespie said. “Whether because their parents were involved in detainments or because their parents have to make that unfortunate safety calculus — is it worth it to send my kids to school and put myself at risk?”
