BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The longest government shutdown in U.S. history has ended, but Kentuckians are still feeling the effects. Food banks in Warren County saw an influx of people as many SNAP recipients could not get their benefits for several weeks .
Sharon Dillard helps manage the food bank at Faith Methodist Church. Throughout October and November, she has seen the shelves run dry, time and time again.
“During the last two or three weeks, it has been very difficult to keep up with our stock,” she said.
According to the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services , more than 645,000 Kentuckians received SNAP benefits in October.
Dillard said her pantry has seen a major increase in demand.
