DECATUR, Ala. - A local church in Decatur is seeking a fresh start after a fire left them without a permanent home nearly two years ago.
On Jan. 1, 2024 a fire caused by a wall heater malfunction destroyed the 6th Avenue Community Church, forcing the congregation to find temporary places to worship.
"I got a call at 4 a.m., waking me up, on Jan. 1, New Year's Day, two years ago, telling me that there had been a fire," said Pastor Sean Demars of Glory Community Church.
Despite the setback, Demars said the church community has remained resilient. "This is not the first tragedy that we've been through as a church, it's not going to be the last tragedy we go through as a church," Demars said.
In the aftermath, several local churches offered their spaces to the displaced congregation. Howev
