KNOXVILLE, Tenn — The Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority Board of Commissioners called an emergency meeting on Wednesday to discuss switching from a traditional style foundation to a hybrid system after running into voids that made for uncertain ground usage. This different construction approach comes with timing and money changes.

"Because we are transitioning from what was originally designed for the project, it will delay the project from the spring of 2027 until the summer of 2027," McGhee Tyson Spokesperson Becky Huckaby said. "This new approach to the foundation is not only going to be the great way for us to move forward foundationally, but it is also going to be able to help us to save some money in the long run from having to make this transition."
