A gardener has been charged with killing his former employer after an elderly woman died in hospital almost a week after she was allegedly attacked at home.

The 53-year-old man was accused of stalking and intimidating the 86-year-old woman, as well as causing fatal injuries.

Police allege the man entered his employer's home at 8.30am on October 31 and recklessly caused grievous bodily harm.

The woman, who lived on Derwent Street in Glebe , presented to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital following the alleged assault and was treated for her injuries.

On November 2, investigators arrested the gardener on Harnett Avenue in Marrickville and he was taken to Newtown Police Station.
