SPRINGFIELD — The City Council voted 11-0 Monday to borrow $2.5 million to replace the Police Department’s computer software, body-worn cameras and electronic stun guns.
In February, the council approved a plan to upgrade the department’s software system, which dates back to 1995 and is no longer meeting technology needs, despite upgrades and add-ons. The package with Axon also replaces the aging stun guns and the five-year-old body-worn cameras.
The cost of the full package is $7.2 million but spread over five years.
