A former Calgary teacher has been found guilty of sexually assaulting a student more than two decades ago.
Mario Joseph Denis Arsenault, 59, was convicted this week following a trial that took place in August in French.
Justice Francine Roy found Arsenault guilty of sexual assault and two counts of sexual exploitation.
A Calgary court heard that in the early 2000s, Arsenault initiated a three-year sexual relationship with a Grade 9 student at a local Calgary French school.
During the trial, Roy heard evidence that Arsenault’s relationship with the teenage girl began with one-on-one meetings and escalated to a sexual relationship with some of the encounters taking place in the teacher’s car.
Arsenault now lives in Quebec.
Roy will hear sentencing arguments from prosecutor Dominique Ma
