A former world champion kickboxer says he once fought while suffering from an autoimmune disease that has left him unable to write. 12 years ago, Johnney Roye was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, also known as MS.

A year before he was told by doctors about the disease, Johnney says he had competed in a championship bout while unknowingly dealing with the disease.

"I just thought things were changing," He told the M.E.N.

"I thought there was a physical reason why I wasn't performing. I didn't realise that it was such a serious and significant matter.

"I mentioned it to my team, and we were not thinking it was MS. We were thinking about what we've got to do, to adapt.
