GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - Some would say defensive back is the hardest position in football.

Now, add a 4-star wide receiver you’re tasked with covering in your first start at corner, and this would seem like a near-impossible task.

But for Gulfport’s Javious Hales , he answered the call and made a few house calls as well.

The junior who plays both wide receiver and cornerback for the Admirals did exactly what he was asked and then some, having not one but two pick-sixes while helping the Admirals advance to the second round of the 7A playoffs.

“I knew they had a 4-star,” said Hales. “I knew what I was coming to look for, I told my coach. He told me, ‘Get at least two picks.’”

Friday’s performance showed his ability as a defender, but Hales gets the most joy from creating separation
