London: Britain’s MI5 spy agency has warned politicians about Chinese agents seeking to exploit them to extract government secrets, heightening security concerns amid broader friction with Beijing.

The alert named two recruitment agents as fronts for the Chinese Ministry of State Security (MSS) and told MPs to be on guard against approaches that would lay the groundwork for gaining classified information for a foreign power.

“MI5 has issued this Alert because the activity is targeted and widespread,” the Speaker of the House of Commons, Lindsay Hoyle, told MPs in a letter to pass on the new warning.
