ULLIN, Ill. (WSIL) -- As temperatures drop, the Southern 7 Health Department is urging residents to prepare for winter weather. They highlighted several tips from the National Weather Service to help the community stay safe and warm.
Residents should ensure their home emergency kits are ready for winter storms. The department also recommends using sand for traction and ice-melting products on walkways.
Having sufficient heating fuel is crucial, as regular fuel sources might be disrupted. Emergency heating equipment and fuel can keep at least one room livable, Southern 7 advised.
"Keep fire extinguishers on hand, and make sure your family knows how to use them," said the Southern 7 Health Department.
