Global entertainers Alice and Ellen Kessler, inseparable for six decades in life and on stage, have died aged 89 in a planned joint assisted death at their home.
Police were called on Monday lunchtime to carry out a routine check at the twins’ Gruenwald home near Munich, Germany , where they lived in adjoining apartments.
Officers confirmed the deaths and said there was no indication of third-party involvement.
Their deaths were confirmed by Germany’s Society for Humane Dying, which said the sisters’ decision was long-considered, voluntary and free of external pressure.
During an interview with Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera last year, the twins said they wanted “to go away together on the same day”.
‘The idea that one of us might go first is very hard to bear,” they said.
