ST PAUL, Minn. — It's not often you see a major sports league announce a change as big as Major League Soccer did last week.

MLS will shift to a summer-to-spring schedule, rather than its current version of February through December. That new change will begin in 2027, and will see the league play from July through mid-December.

They'll take a winter break from mid-December through early February, when the season will resume. Playoffs will happen in May.

“The calendar shift is one of the most important decisions in our history,” MLS Commissioner Don Garber said in a release about the change last week. "It marks the start of a new era for our league and for soccer in North America.”
