Hanan Elatr Khashoggi, the widow of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, has called for an apology from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman following his remarks about her husband's murder. Khashoggi was killed by Saudi agents in 2018, and during a recent visit to the White House, the Crown Prince referred to the incident as a "huge mistake."

Elatr expressed her pain over the Crown Prince's visit, stating that there is no justification for her husband's killing. She described Khashoggi as a brave and transparent man who fought for press freedom. In her message posted on X, she demanded, "The Crown Prince said he was sorry, so he should meet me, apologise and compensate me."

During the meeting with US President Donald Trump, the Crown Prince insisted that his government has taken steps to prevent such incidents from happening again. Trump, however, defended the Crown Prince, stating, "Whether you like him (Jamal Khashoggi) or don’t like him, things happen but he (Crown Prince) knew nothing about it." He also described Khashoggi as "extremely controversial."

Elatr criticized Trump's comments, saying they were deeply misguided. She stated, "I believe you don’t have a real idea about what is Jamal Khashoggi. He was a brave man, a great man, and a transparent and honest man." She expressed her willingness to meet with Trump to provide a clearer understanding of her husband and to seek justice for both of them.

As the Crown Prince's visit continues, Elatr's calls for accountability and recognition of her husband's legacy remain a poignant reminder of the unresolved issues surrounding Khashoggi's murder.
