For left-handed reliever Brennan Bernardino, the road to the major leagues was anything but a simple one.
Drafted in the 26th round — a round so low that it does not even exist anymore — by the Cincinnati Reds in 2014 out of Cal State Dominguez Hills, an NCAA Division II program, Bernardino would take another eight years before finally reaching the majors, appearing in just two games for the Seattle Mariners in 2022.
Along the way, Bernardino pitched in the Mexican League , the independent American Association, the Venezuelan Winter League and the Cleveland Guardians' minor league system, as well as for the Mexican national team, though he was born and raised in Valencia, California.
The Mariners placed Bernardino on waivers in April 2023. The Red Sox claimed him on April 16, and
