An Essex County man was convicted on Friday of sexually assaulting three children over an eight-year period, officials with the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Terrence Mells, 42, of Newark was convicted of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, three counts of second-degree sexual assault, third-degree aggravated criminal sexual contact, three counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and first-degree witness tampering.
Mells was convicted after a four-day trial in which prosecutors accused him of abusing the children between March 2015 and November 2023, officials said.
Prosecutors also accused Mells of threatening one of the victims after he learned he was being investigated, officials said.
Mells’ sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 23, 2026.
