AMES, Iowa —

Add Gabe Burkle's name to the list of Iowa State starters lost for the season. Tuesday, head coach Matt Campbell announced his star tight end needs surgery this week and is out for the remainder of the year. He did not specify the injury. Burkle left the TCU game on Nov. 8 and did not return.

The 6-6 junior from Cedar Rapids was Iowa State's fourth-leading receiver this season with 26 catches, 302 yards, and a touchdown.

The Cyclones have been plagued by injuries this season. Also out for the year are linebacker Will McLaughlin and star cornerbacks Jontez Williams and Jeremiah Cooper. Safety Ta'Shawn James is out for the foreseeable future. Safety Jamison Patton is questionable for Saturday's game at Kansas. Campbell says linebacker Caleb Bacon will play against the Jayhawk
