New factories for making weapons, bombs and drones will be unveiled by the Defence Secretary today as he warns Britain must be battle-ready for a “new era of threat”.

John Healey will use a speech in Westminster to announce the opening of two new drone-making facilities this week, while a further 13 sites across the UK are being lined up to make explosives and munitions, as Britain ramps up weapons production to prepare for possible war with Russia.

The UK is one of a number of European countries – alongside Germany – ploughing significant sums of money into their defence industries, amid fears that Europe could be plunged into a major regional war before the end of the decade. New Feature
