The owners of the GJ Union Depot, in partnership with the City of Grand Junction, are moving forward with a large grant application that would help fully restore the historic train station.

Union Depot co-owner Dustin Anzures gave a presentation to City Council at its Monday workshop detailing the grant, the scope of the project and the future of rail in Grand Junction.

“You’re going to hear more about trains than you probably care to know about,” Anzures said. “But it’s an important piece of our project and where we see the future for the rail district and lower downtown Grand Junction.”

The grant application will seek around $5 million from the Federal Railroad Administration with a $1.3 million private match from the Union Depot ownership, Anzures said. The city is not being asked to
