A balloon release ceremony was held Tuesday to honor the memory of the 10-year-old boy who was shot and killed in Newark last weekend.
Family, friends and community members gathered at Vailsburg Park to remember Jordan Garcia, the boy who was tragically killed Saturday evening.
“No one deserves to die by a gun,” Stephanie Garcia, Jordan’s mother, at said while speaking in the center of a football field.
“My kids are heartbroken,” added Stephanie, who said she was a mother of seven. “This is the worst thing that my kids have endured.”
The ceremony began with a prayer and was followed by speeches from those who loved Jordan. The entire crowd released dozens of white and silver balloons into the sky while saying in unison: “Justice for Jordan.”
