The Michigan DNR , DTE Energy Foundation , and ReLeaf Michigan are giving $100,000 in grant funding and other assistance to 25 communities in order to expand tree canopy and strengthen local green infrastructure.
Monroe was selected as one of the communities; according to the city's communications specialist, Amy Mohr, the trees will be planted on Conant Avenue, East Third Street, and Almyra Avenue. The planting will take place in 2026. According to the city's forestry and grounds supervisor, Kevin Ganues, they'll be able to plant 33 trees, with the city matching the funds.
